Superboy, also known as Conner Kent was a partial genetic clone of Superman created on the orders of Lex Luthor, and a superhero endorsed by the latter, as a "replacement" for Superman. Later Conner was adopted by Martha and Jonathan Kent and eventually became loyal to Clark Kent/Superman and into the Superfamily.
Superboy/Kon-El was created by Lex Luthor illegally within a LexCorp secret facility, intending to create a Superman clone or possibly an army to serve him at will. When Lex visited the site he was told by one of the scientists that the clone was nearing completion.
Following Superman's death after his battle with Doomsday, an unknown incident caused the lab to be severely damaged with all tubes containing the failed clones smashed and the subjects laid out on the floor. The tube containing the Superboy clone was also smashed releasing him. He later left the facility, grabbing a jacket on his way out.
Superboy is first seen saving a couple from thugs, using super speed to push them away. He is later seen flying in at the LexCorp party that announced that LexCorp is funding him. Later, he is seen fighting the Eradicator and has the upper hand until he grabs Superboy by the neck and beats him. The Eradicator almost kills him, until Steel comes and hits the Eradicator right before he was going to hit Superboy. Superboy then says to Steel that he had him and then Steel called him “Superboy” which he corrected him saying that he was “Superman”. While Cyborg Superman and Eradicator were battling they were about to create a huge explosion and Mercy was still knocked out after being shot by the Eradicator, Superboy grabbed Mercy and flew out of there. After the fight, Superboy meets Lois Lane, which he ask “ How old are you?”. In disgust she asked how old he is. He replied with “old enough“ and then flew away.
The next day, he saved a little girl from a burning building and did a toy review with his own toy. He is later seen on the red carpet taking selfies with girls. He is later seen taking selfies with girl when Lex comes and tells him to get in the limo. Later in the limo, Superboy gets mad at Lex because he never told him that he was a clone. Lex tells Superboy that he needs to do something for him
He is later seen in the day guarding the president with the Justice League. Lex on the comm tells him to focus when he says the Justice League are funky fresh. Then a portal opens on top of the Justice Leagues new watchtower and Parademons come out of it. Superboy, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter go to attack them in the sky. During the battle he sees Cyborg Superman just standing, but when he is distracted, he gets hit back and forth by two Parademons and gets it down to the floor where he is knocked out. Then Lois sees him crash into the ground and helps him. For the rest of the battle he is knocked out and Lois has the help him.
Later Lex gets mad at Superboy for Cyborg Superman getting all the credit. Then Lex calms down and tells Superboy to go to the lab, calling him "Son". Superboy shows confusion with the affectionate wording. Lex takes him into an elevator and goes all the way down and finds the lab where he was born. Then he finds Donavan, the person who made him , but his arm and glasses were broken. In shock, Superboy asks what happened to him and in response, Donovan states that his father is a cruel man, which drives Superboy into more confusion. Then Lex came with a serum that would kill once injected. Upon Lex's insistence, Donovan tells Superboy of his true nature: that 50% of his DNA was supplied by Lex Luthor. Lex then mentions that he gave Superboy an upgrade, “All the powers of Superman with all the Luthor intellect.” Donovan, seeing the lethal serum in Lex's hand, pleads for Superboy's life, saying that they've gotten further with this "model" than any others. Then Lex destroys the serum. Retreating back to the elevator with Superboy, Lex states that Donovan is fired and releases the rest of the monsterous clones with a press of a button. It is assumed Donovan is killed. Superboy is left very distressed.
Some time later, Superboy hears a door open and gets mad because he thinks it is Lex, but it is Lois Lane. She jokes about his name Superboy and then makes him happy by saying that he looks like his father, Superman. Then, Lois gets a call from John Henry Irons and he finds out that he is Steel. He sees that he is battling the Eradicator at the Fortress of Solitude and is about to go to help, but Lex interrupts their conversation. Then he took the phone and connected it to the giant moniter he has. Lex tells Superboy not to go because The Cyborg Superman made an army of Super powered people that he controls and he wants Superboy to protect him. Superboy states that Lex is not the boss of him and Lex replies with, "I literally am". However, while Lex and Lois are looking at the moniter, Superboy rips off the LexCorp badge on his jacket and flies to the Fortress of Solitude to help Steel.
When he gets to the Fortress of Solitude, he finds that Superman is alive and he asks, “What’s the plan, dad?” Superman is visibly confused with Superboy's statement. Superman explains and discusses the plan with Superboy, Steel and the Eradicator.
With Superman in the Watchtower trying to rescue Lois Lane and trying to stop the Cyborg Superman, Superboy is outside with Steel fighting the army of Cybercore that the Cyborg Superman had previously created. After the Cyborg Superman's defeat at the hands of Superman, the rest of the Cybercore outside fall to the ground, dead.
Afterwards, Superboy goes to live with Martha and Jonathan Kent, Superman's adoptive parents. They give him the name "Conner Kent".
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War
Superboy is present during the Justice League's briefing of their planned attack on Darkseid and Apokolips with the other Titans. A few days after the Justice League's complete defeat at the hands of the Paradooms, genetic hybrids of Parademons and Doomsday sent by the Demon New God and Mad Titan itself, Earth is raided by the Paradooms and the Teen Titans were all violently killed. Superboy, along with Damian Wayne and Raven, are one of the only members to survive the attack.
Two years later, Superboy is part of the resistance force consisting of the other survivors of the League. Superboy, Shazam, and Steel were tasked to destroy one of the Reapers attached to the Earth's surface, and engages in battle with the Paradooms as they are deployed to protect it. Despite his efforts, Superboy is killed when a Paradoom grabs him from behind and snaps his neck.
Superboy is a very flirty character as is shown when he has a sexual attraction to Lois Lane, despite her age also showing he doesn’t understand statutory rape laws; though its more than likely because of his nature as a clone that he ignores said laws. Superboy acts like a stereotypical teenager, and is more egotistical and childish than Superman. He also appears to be genuinely heroic and brave, but also seeks approval from others. Despite his egotism, he is actually rather insecure upon discovering that he is a clone with part of his DNA being that of Lex Luthor. He appears far happier in a photograph after being adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent back in Smallville, displaying a greater degree of mental health and diminished melancholy.
Powers and Abilities
Hybrid Physiology: As a partial genetic clone of Superman, Superboy likely possesses the same physical abilities of a Kryptonian who has absorbed the solar energy of a yellow sun. However, due to the human DNA supplied by Lex Luthor, the full scope of Superboy's powers are not yet known.
- Superhuman Speed: He is capable of moving at speeds greater than humans and can appear as a blur.
- Flight: He is capable of flying through the air at high speeds.
- Superhuman Strength: He was able to push fully grown adults away, including one into a dumpster. He is also powerful enough to throw Paradooms and Parademons against each other from far distances.
- Nigh-Invulnerability: He was able to survive powerful attacks from the Eradicator. However, as he is only half Kryptonian, his invulnerability is much weaker than Superman's. Although this could be due to his youth and that his powers have not yet fully developed.
- Heat Vision: Like Superman, Superboy is able to project beams of intense heat from his eyes.
- Limitation Transcendence/Weakness Immunity/High Resistance (human-Kryptonian hybrids like Superboy)
- Tactile Telekinesis :Given his human DNA fusing with his kryptonian DNA, he can move objects he's touching with his mind
- Gifted Intelligence: Lex Luthor has stated that he had his own intellectual genes mixed in with Superman's genes within Superboy, gifting him with an increased intelligence. Combined with the inherited intellectual capacity of his Kryptonian ancestors, particularly that of premier scientist Jor-El, Superboy is likely extremely gifted both cognitively and emotionally.
- He is voiced by Cameron Monaghan, who is also known for playing the twin brothers Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska on Gotham. The irony is that both serve as proto-Jokers in that series.
- Superboy became part of the Superman family, with Martha and Jonathan Kent adopting him.
- Jay Oliva describes Superboy as what Superman would be like of he was "raised by the Kardashians."
- Unlike his Young Justice TV series counterpart, He doesn't have a muscular body.
